Athletics
Student Services provides students with a variety of athletic activities, in keeping with the Latin motto mens sana in corpore sano (a sound mind in a healthy body). Participating in sports/athletics at JCU is an excellent way for students from different countries to interact and get to know each other’s respective cultures in an atmosphere of collaborative effort. Students are offered a discount on membership to neighborhood gyms, which offer yoga, pilates, aerobics, spinning, and martial arts classes as well as weight-lifting). Students also have access to basketball, volleyball and tennis courts.
Courses are also available in Salsa and Belly dancing, subject to student interest. The University also arranges outsourced trips such as skiing, hiking, rafting, canoeing, and bicycling.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOCCER
The John Cabot Men’s Gladiators Soccer Team is one of the 12 teams in the League of Roman Universities which competes every year from September to May, playing a standard 11-a-side game.
The Women’s Gladiators Soccer Team also plays in the Roman Universities League, which is composed of 6 teams that play Calcetto (Italian 5-a-side soccer).
As the soccer season covers the fall and spring semesters, adjustments to the line-up are common as new study abroad students join the degree-seeking students on the team. This constantly changing team dynamic provides a positive experience of inter-cultural competition. Soccer is certainly the most popular activity among our student body and school spirit runs high!

Athletics Programs
We offer students the possibility of using outdoor basketball courts near the campus for recreational purposes. JCU does not have an official basketball team so students are encouraged to organize informal games of 1-on-1 or more.
The ancient art of belly dance allows women to express themselves in new ways, builds community and understanding, and enhances both physical and mental strength. Classes are held weekly for both beginner and intermediate levels and are structured to meet the needs of individual dancers. More information available from the instructor Kathryne Fedele at kfedele@johncabot.edu.
Tennis courts are available to JCU students. This activity requires a few days notice in order to reserve the courts.
GYMS* - JCU has agreements with two local gyms, one in the historic center of Rome and the other down the street from the University.
Medical Certificates for Gyms Under Italian law, students must take a physical exam with a local doctor and receive a medical certificate stating that the student is in good health and may use the gym. Students may make appointments with the gym staff to take physicals directly on the gym premises, at a cost of €25 to €35. The certificate will then be given to the gym staff.
Gym Registration Fee At the beginning of the term, each student must pay a sum of €90 for the semester (about 3 and a half months) directly to the gym. This will allow the student to use the facility any time during the week. JCU students must present a JCU Student ID in order to enter the gyms.
Gym Rules and Regulations All JCU students must abide by the rules and regulations of each gym. Any violation of the rules may result in immediate dismissal from the gym and the registration fee will not be refunded. Furthermore, JCU students are required to sign a disclaimer taking full responsibility for their behavior at the gyms.
