Elisabetta Morani Center for Teaching and Learning

About the CTL

The Elisabetta Morani Center for Teaching and Learning was founded in 2022, based on a proposal by then Dean of Academic Affairs Carlos Dews. The Center is named after Elisabetta Morani (1958-2020), Head Librarian at John Cabot University and advocate of supporting teaching and learning. Mission

The Elisabetta Morani Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) promotes a collaborative environment where faculty, staff, students and community members work together to create rich and engaging learning experiences. CTL is committed to:

  • Elevating teaching excellence: CTL supports faculty development through professional development programs, mentoring initiatives, and pedagogical research.
  • Strengthening collaboration across the disciplines and departments: CTL aims at creating a network for sharing best practices and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Enhancing student success: CTL advocates for effective teaching practices that improve student learning outcomes and promote academic achievement.
  • Promoting information literacy: CTL partners with the library to provide resources and workshops that equip faculty and students with the necessary skills to navigate the information landscape.

CTL serves as a central hub for all teaching and learning resources at the university, facilitating partnership and maximizing the impact of existing initiatives. Through a strong liberal arts orientation, we empower faculty to integrate technology, research, and open educational resources into their teaching, encouraging a dynamic and enriching learning environment for all students. 

Vision

The Elisabetta Morani Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) envisions a university community where teaching is a valued and continuously evolving practice.  

Faculty must be empowered to experiment, reflect, and refine their teaching methods, embracing innovative approaches to enhance student learning. Faculty empowerment allows students to become active participants in their learning journey, equipping them with the critical thinking and information literacy skills required to navigate complex information and engage in meaningful inquiry.  

Such excellence in teaching and learning has its foundation in collaboration. All community members, from faculty to students, to staff, to the administration, must work together to develop and share best practices, cultivating a vibrant learning ecosystem that rests on three cornerstones: technological support, pedagogical innovation, and information literacy with close connection to the Frohring Library. By supporting these three cornerstones, CTL aims to create a learning ecosystem where technology empowers innovation, innovation enhances pedagogy, and a strong foundation in information literacy paves the way for lifelong learning, both for faculty and students.
