Graduate Housing
Graduate Housing combines convenience with independence, offering students an opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant daily life of Rome while becoming an integral part of the JCU graduate community.
All apartments are fully furnished, and utilities are included. Located in neighborhoods near the campuses, these accommodations are accessible via Rome's public transportation system, with commutes of up to 30 minutes by bus, tram, or on foot.
Apartment designs, furnishings, layouts, and locations may vary. Students can indicate building and room preferences on their housing application, but final placement depends on availability and the application submission date. Graduate Housing availability is limited, with priority given to new incoming graduate students starting in Fall.
The JCU Housing team is dedicated to supporting students living in Graduate Housing. They provide advice, tips, and information about nearby shops and services. Additionally, students have access to a 24/7 emergency contact number.
Housing Options

Graduate Shared Apartments
The Graduate Shared Apartments experience offers the opportunity to connect and build a living-learning environment with fellow JCU graduate students, in a Roman-style accommodation.

Studio Apartments
The Studio Apartments are situated in the heart of the Trastevere neighborhood, and offer a unique living experience. Each unit comes with a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom.

External Housing - Dotcampus
Graduate students can also consider alternative accommodations through the third-party provider, Dotcampus. In partnership with JCU Housing, a limited number of Dotcampus’ rooms are reserved for JCU graduate students each semester.
First-year graduate students can opt for either a studio apartment or a shared apartment with single-occupancy bedrooms. Housing is secured with an Extended Housing contract, spanning from Fall to Spring and including the winter break for continuous accommodation.
Second-year graduate students can choose flexible, semester-based contracts. Options include studio apartments, shared apartments with single-occupancy bedrooms, or shared bedrooms, ensuring both affordability and convenience during their final semester.
Housing Contract and Payments
To secure JCU Housing, both the application and the required deposit must be submitted by the deadline. Housing availability is limited, and demand often exceeds capacity. Applicants will be placed on a waiting list if all housing options are full, even if their applications meet the deadline. Any applications that fail to meet the deposit and full payment deadlines will also be waitlisted. Submissions after the deadline will not be considered for JCU Housing.
Extended Housing Contract is available exclusively to first-year graduate students seeking continuous accommodation in JCU Housing from Fall through Spring (late August – early May) without needing to move between semesters. Approved students remain in the same apartment until the Spring semester ends.
To secure housing:
- Submit a completed Fall application and deposits for both Fall and Spring ($2,000/€2,000) by the Fall application deadline.
- Pay the remaining Fall balance and Winter Break housing fee by the Fall Full Payment deadline (July 15).
- Pay the remaining Spring balance by the Spring Full Payment deadline (November 30). The Winter Break housing fee is mandatory for the Extended Housing Contract option.
Semester-Based Housing Contract is available to second-year graduate students who need housing only for their Fall semester to complete their program. To secure housing, submit a completed Fall application and deposit ($1,000) by the deadline.

Financial Aid
- Submit both housing application and deposit by the deadline. The remaining balance is deferred until the financial aid is disbursed. If the remaining balance cannot be submitted by the full payment deadline, students must notify JCU Housing before the deadline to avoid being waitlisted.

Waiting List
Should any spaces become available, the Housing Office will contact students immediately for confirmation and they will be asked to submit a deposit or a full payment, depending on the date of the confirmation. Upon notification of the location and type of housing assigned, students will have the choice to accept or reject the offer within 48 hours from when the notification is sent.
Housing deposit without submitting a housing application by the deadline will not be accepted and will be placed on a waiting list. The complete application must be submitted with a deposit by the deadline (midnight CET) to be fully considered for allocation. The Housing deposit without the submission of a complete application does not guarantee housing.
MEDICAL-RELATED ACCOMMODATION
If students have medical-related requests, they must complete the ‘Health Related Accommodation Needs’ section of the housing application with a medical or supporting document uploaded by the deadline.
Students can update or make changes to their application on the Student Portal before the application deadline (midnight CET). After the deadline, the submitted application will remain available to view only.
GRADUATE HOUSING AVAILABILITY
Graduate housing prioritizes incoming first-year graduate students starting in the Fall. Second-year graduate students are eligible for housing only under the Semester-Based Contract. If additional spaces become available, the Housing Office will promptly notify students, who must then submit either a deposit or full payment, depending on the confirmation date.
How to apply for JCU Housing
To apply for JCU Housing, enrolled students can access the housing application online through the JCU Student Portal. The application must be fully completed and submitted, along with the housing deposit, by the specified deadline for the intended semester. This applies whether you are applying for Semester-Based Housing or an Extended Housing Contract.
