The Student Leadership Programs at JCU offer unique opportunities for students to
cultivate and demonstrate their leadership skills while contributing to our vibrant
university community. Whether through organizing events, mentoring peers, or fostering
community connections, there is a place for everyone to grow. Our motto: Explore,
Excel, Experience, and Grow Together.
Student leaders at JCU:
- Participate in professional leadership trainings.
- Gain real-world experience in leadership roles.
- Build meaningful connections with peers and staff.
- Receive recognition through a Leadership Certificate at the Student Affairs Celebration and a red cord for their Commencement ceremony.

Paid and Unpaid Leadership Roles
We understand the importance of clarity when choosing your leadership journey. At JCU, some positions are paid, while others are unpaid:
Paid Positions:
- Resident Assistants
- Orientation Leaders (Orientation Assistants, Immigration Assistants, Arrival Assistants)
- Wellness Ambassadors
- Student Ambassadors
Unpaid Positions:
- Community Service Site Leaders
- Student Clubs and Organizations Leaders
- Student Activities Board Members
Important Notes:
- Students may apply for multiple paid positions but can only accept one per semester.
- Unpaid positions can be held simultaneously with a paid role.
- Please note these are not internships. For internship opportunities, check out the Center for Career Services.

Student Clubs and Organizations
With over 20 active clubs and more than 100 leaders, the Clubs offer endless leadership opportunities to explore your passions and connect with peers. During the 2023/2024 academic year, over 300 events were hosted by our clubs, enhancing the university’s cultural and social fabric. Interested in becoming a student leader? Student Activities Board
Join the Student Activities Board (SAB) and take part in creating unforgettable campus experiences! SAB members collaborate to plan engaging events that reflect teamwork, diversity, and creativity. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Resident Assistant Program
Be a role model in the residence halls! Resident Assistants (RAs) create inclusive communities, provide peer support, and promote cultural understanding. As part of the Residential Life team, RAs promote a safe and respectful living environment for all. Interested in becoming an RA? Contact [email protected].

Orientation Leadership Program
Be the first friendly face new students see! Orientation Leaders (OLs) are undergraduate and graduate students who are responsible for welcoming and supporting all incoming students by leading a variety of activities during Orientation week. Student Ambassadors Program
Be the face of JCU for prospective students! As a Student Ambassador, you’ll represent the university at outreach events, you’ll lead campus tours, and share your experience through different online mediums. Community Service Site Leaders
Join the Community Service Program to make a difference by coordinating volunteer activities and fostering connections
with community partners. This role hones your project management and cross-cultural
communication skills while allowing you to leave a positive impact.

Wellness Ambassadors Program
The Wellness Ambassadors are a dynamic group of students collaborating with the Office of Health and Wellbeing to enhance campus wellness through peer-led programs and initiatives. Trained to
design and lead support projects, events, and activities, they work to improve access
to resources, reduce stigma, foster a supportive community, and empower informed health
and wellness choices.
